绛州万泉（今山西万荣）人，生卒年不详。左龙武大将军薛平子。曾任家令丞、左庶子。武宗会昌中，以左庶子充新罗册赠使，由青州泛海前往，频为暴风雨所阻，一年后方抵达新罗，未及行册礼，染疾而卒。事迹散见《新唐书·宰相世系表三下》、《太平广记》卷二七四、《南部新书》卷庚、《诗话总龟》前集卷二三、《唐诗纪事》卷四八。《全唐诗》存诗2首。[
