（1366—1430）明江西德兴人，迁湖广长沙府湘阴，字惟哲。洪武二十三年举人。入太学，擢户部主事。永乐初进尚书，主持浙西、苏、松治水事。布衣徒步，日夜经划。七年，兼摄行在礼部、兵部、都察院事。十九年，以谏帝北征沙漠，系狱。二十二年，成祖死，仁宗即位，获释。累进太子少保、兼少傅，尚书如故。宣宗即位后，以旧辅益亲重。汉王高煦反，原吉与杨荣劝帝亲征平叛。宣德五年，卒官。历事五朝，外掌度支，内预机务，为政能持大体。卒谥忠靖。有《夏忠靖公集》。
