明扬州府江都人，字所建，自号南湘外史。夏国公顾成裔孙。以侯家子弟补勋卫，旋谢病归。折节读书，广延四方宾客，时议以为四公子复出。辽事告急，以荐募江淮水师勤王，兵甫出，被谗下狱，谪戍，寻赦还。崇祯二年，后金兵至京师城下，大猷单车渡淮，欲独身赴斗，闻解严乃还。后郁郁不得志而卒。有《镇远先献记》。
